On 19 June 2008, YTL Comms entered into an agreement with Clearwire to leverage its Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) experience in the USA in ensuring a successful nationwide rollout of our own network in Peninsular Malaysia.
Clearwire is a leader in the development and deployment of the next generation of broadband technology, WiMAX, and will play a major role in our establishment of a WiMAX ecosystem.
Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping said, “This collaboration will facilitate our plans to develop and deploy a WiMAX network in Malaysia, with Clearwire providing expertise and the experience gained from its US-based operations in key areas including ecosystem strategy, infrastructure design and network deployment.
With Clearwire’s consulting assistance, we will be well positioned to successfully rolling out a Fourth Generation (4G) wireless broadband network to bring true mobility to the Malaysian market. This agreement enables us to leverage Clearwire’s world class WiMAX experience, resources and capabilities to Malaysia.
Clearwire will, among other things, provide YTL Comms with strategic support and telecommunication advice, in addition to working with us on consumer and market research. A dedicated team from Clearwire will be assigned for this agreement.
